Game of Thrones Rumors Are True. Series Will Be Cut Off At 73 Hours.

While many of us are still trying to pick our jaws off the floor from that insane season finale on Sunday, we already have some new Game of Thrones news.

Co-creator David Benioff revealed to Deadline that he expects the show to end with a total of 73 hours. That would mean that there are 13 hours left, confirming a previous rumor of seven episodes in 2017’s Seasons 7 and a final six in 2018’s Season 8.

“It’s two more seasons we’re talking about. From pretty close to the beginning, we talked about doing this in 70-75 hours, and that’s what we’ll end up with,” Benioff said. “Call it 73 for now.”

GoT has of course developed quite the cult following over the years, so many are wondering why call it quits after 73 episodes? For that, Benioff replied, “It’s not just trying not to outstay your welcome. We’re trying to tell one cohesive story with a beginning, middle and end.”

The co-creator also dove into a bit of what to expect in the final seasons, noting “Daenerys is finally coming back to Westeros, Jon Snow is king of the North and Cersei is sitting on the Iron Throne. And we know the Night King is up there, waiting for all of them.”

“The pieces are on the board now,” he went on to explain. “Some of the pieces have been removed from the board and we are heading toward the end game.”
