Common has signed a two-year first-look deal in television with HBO. Under the pact, the actor-musician will develop and
produce projects for the premium cable network through his Freedom Road Productions alongside his manager/partner Derek Dudley and head of development and production Nicole Dow.
Common recently received his first scripted pilot order as a producer at Showtime for a Chicago-set drama from writer Lena Waithe. As an actor, Common — who won an Oscar this year for co-writing the song “Glory” from Selma, in which he also co-starred — will next be seen in the features Barbershop 3, Suicide Squad, Coco, Being Charlie and Hunter Killer. He also plays the gatekeeper of Oz in NBC’s upcoming The Wiz Live!
Common is repped by CAA, Dudley and attorney David Fox.
