Cop Found Not Guilty In Off Duty Shooting Of Unarmed Teen

Boyd was fatally shot on March 21, 2012 when Servin, who was off-duty at the time, approached Boyd and a group of friends near Douglas Park for being rowdy. Servin said he saw Antonio Cross reach for a gun during the conflict, and only fired because he felt his life was in danger. One of the bullets fatally struck Boyd. Police never found a weapon on Cross.

Before handing down Monday’s verdict, Judge Porter noted: “This is not a place for emotion. This is a place for reasoned decisions.”

But it was not enough to alleviate the pain and anger Boyd’s family felt after hearing his decision.

“You want me to be quiet?” Boyd’s brother yelled, before being dragged out of the Cook County courtroom. “This motherfucker killed my sister.”

Seattle CEO Raises Minimum Wage At His Company To 70,000

“Is anyone else freaking out right now?” Mr. Price asked after the clapping and whooping died down into a few moments of stunned silence. “I’m kind of freaking out.”

If it’s a publicity stunt, it’s a costly one. Mr. Price, who started the Seattle-based credit-card payment processing firm in 2004 at the age of 19, said he would pay for the wage increases by cutting his own salary from nearly $1 million to $70,000 and using 75 to 80 percent of the company’s anticipated $2.2 million in profit this year.

Aaron Hernandez Was Found Guilty

Hernandez was accused of murdering Lloyd, a 27-year-old landscaper from Boston who was found riddled with bullets in a Massachusetts field in June 2013. In its closing statements last week, the defense admitted that Hernandez was present when Lloyd was shot and killed but maintained that Hernandez was not the shooter, as the prosecutors allege. Because Hernandez was being tried as the shooter and not merely an accomplice, the defense argued he should be found not guilty. The defense also cited the prosecution’s supposed lack of hard evidence that proved conclusively that Hernandez shot Lloyd and a lack of proven motive on Hernandez’s part.

The FDA Announced That Kind Bars Are Not Healthy

According to the FDA, at least four of Kind’s “healthy” products—including the only decent flavor, Almond & Coconut—are mislabeled as to their nutrient contents and health benefits.

Specifically: “Your products do not meet the requirements for use of the nutrient content claim ‘healthy’ on a food label,” FDA compliance director William Correll said in a letter to the company made public today.

Under FDA regulations, only foods with less than one gram of saturated fat per serving can legally be branded as “healthy.” Not a good look for the aforementioned Almond & Coconut, which comes with five grams per serving—more than a third of the American Heart Association’s recommended daily intake.

NYPD Captures A Coyote In The City

Richard Pichardo says he was on his way his way to work when he noticed a commotion along 9th Avenue near 28th Street.

“When I first got here, I was curious just like everybody else, and I asked what was it,” he said. “When they told me a coyote, I figured it was just a small one.”

But when he pulled out his cell phone to capture the chase, the animal he saw was anything but small.

“When I caught a good video and I seen the size of him, was large, 60 maybe 70 pounds,” he said. “And if he was standing up, he would be taller than me.”
