Pharrell Is Donating Books To Low Income Families

Pharrell is doing his part to help out with youth literacy. The Virginia super producer recently launched the “Happy” campaign which will assist in the fight by putting books in the hands of thousands of kids who might not normally have the opportunity or access. It’s reported, Skateboard P, along with his publisher Penguin Young Readers and FirstBook, a nonprofit literacy organization, are to donate up to 50,000 books to children in low-income families.

PYR announced the campaign earlier this week on Twitter, urging people to post about why reading makes them happy while utilizing the hashtag #ReadHappy. Each post will result in a charitable donation. In a statement released through Penguin, Pharrell gave a simple reason for the launch of the book fest. “Every child on this planet deserves to experience the joy of reading,” he said.

P announced back in February he would be coming out with a children’s book titled Happy based off his platinum hit of the same name. Pharrell won two Grammy’s for the song which seemed to play on an endless loop via radio for a whole year. Just like the song, the book features pictures of laughing and playing along. The book is the first in a series of four, the plots of the next three have yet to be told.

Happy will be available online and in book stores (remember those old places?) on Monday, Oct. 5.

Got the drop on XXL . . .
