Tidal executive Vania Schlogel told Business Insider that Jay Z has been personally calling people who use the site.
Schlogel said that “he called some of his fans and one of them made the funniest comment. He said ‘This is the best customer service call I’ve ever received!'”
But it isn’t just Jay Z who has been calling Tidal subscribers. Jack White and several other high-profile musicians have also been calling their fans up to talk.

After being locked in for NCAA commercials for the past couple months, Rihanna’s “American Oxygen” finally got debuted during her set at the March Madness Fest a couple days ago. Now, we actually get the track itself as released on Jay Z’s newly minted streaming platform Tidal, to which Ri’s Roc Nation affiliation is, for obvious reasons, inextricably bound. Breathe in, breathe out here.

Anniversary gift exchanges between Beyoncé and JAY Z are always something big an extravagant. As her present for the power-couples seventh wedding anniversary today, Queen Bey releases a new song “Die With You,” which is dedicated to her hubby JAY. The songs video premiered today on Hov’s newly launched streaming service TIDAL, and in it, Beyoncé is seen suited in a Thriller t-shirt with her cap on backwards — performing a stripped down version of the song whilst behind a piano.

What’s the most difficult part about balancing being an artist yourself, staying true to your artistry, and also being a producer that needs to stay conscious about record sales? JAY Z: When you’re in the studio, you’re just making music from your heart. For me, I’ve always been that way. I was an artist, I was executive producer on my first album so, I’ve always had to manage both. I couldn’t get a record deal. It wasn’t by choice — I couldn’t get a record deal, so I had to figure it out. We started by selling records out of the trunks of our cars. We went to some stores in Brooklyn and some other places and then we spread from there. I guess the short answer is: When you’re in the studio you’re an artist, and when you’re outside of that you’ve got to figure out how to get your music heard.
Will Tidal offer a student discount for subscriptions like Spotify does in the near future? JAY Z: Oh. Okay, well I’m going to let Vania answer that one. SCHLOGEL: Yes. When we look at the data, the data says that students don’t really care about paying for streaming. I actually don’t believe that, necessarily — I think that this demographic here, sitting in the room, cares very deeply about music. I think in fact that a lot of you have a deeper emotional connection with music than any data says. And so the short answer for that is, absolutely yes, because we want you all to be Team Tidal and to be a part of this.

Shares in music streamer Aspiro, a majority of which was bought earlier this month by hip-hop star Jay-Z, soared on Tuesday to as much as 11 times the price at which remaining shares will be acquired in a compulsory squeeze-out only days away.
In what appeared to reflect investors clamouring too late for a piece of Aspiro’s music streaming service Tidal, the shares were up 938 percent at 11 Swedish crowns just before trading was halted.

Today, Jay Z threw a launch event in New York City to celebrate the re-launch of Tidal, the streaming service he recently purchased. Win and Regine from Arcade Fire, Kanye, Beyoncé, Daft Punk, Jack White, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Rihanna, Usher, Alicia Keys, J. Cole, and many more artists were all on hand for the launch. It was announced that they are all co-owners of the service. After a speech from Alicia Keys, they all signed a declaration.

Remember back in 2008 when British music fans (including the perpetually grouchy Noel Gallagher) got their knickers in a bunch because Jay Z was headlining Glastonbury? There was an outcry over Jay being the first rapper to headline Glastonbury, apparently because he wasn’t “rock” enough to handle the top slot on the bill.
Well, it’s 2008 all over again. Glastonbury booked Kanye West to headline the festival’s Saturday lineup, and fans are already demanding that Yeezus be dumped from the lineup.
According to a Change.org petition signed by more than 21,000 people (as of Tuesday afternoon), it’s because “Kanye West is an insult to music fans all over the world” and not “deserving.”
Why isn’t Kanye good enough for Glastonbury? The reason, of course, is rock elitism. “Cancel Kanye West’s slot and get a rock band,” the petition demands, adding, “We spend hundreds of pounds to attend glasto, and by doing so, expect a certain level of entertainment.” For the record, Foo Fighters are headlining Friday night’s Glastonbury lineup.
