Facebook Serves 4 Billion Video Views Per Day

In its first quarter earnings call Wednesday, Facebook CEO and cofounder Mark Zuckerberg revealed that the social network now serves more than four billion video views a day, 75% of which come from mobile.

One thing worth keeping in mind: Facebook defines a video “view” as watching only three seconds or more, which is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it metric for videos that play automatically. Other platforms, such as YouTube, require users to linger much longer on a video before it counts as a “view.”

Facebook declined to spell out exactly how much advertising revenue is coming from its videos, but executives repeatedly stressed just how much marketers flock to video generally.

Virtual Reality App Puts You At The Scene Of The Trayvon Martin Murder

Headed up by veteran journalist Nonny de la Peña and her company, Emblematic Group, the experience puts you on the same street in the gated community in Sanford where the incident occurred, complete with rain effects and nighttime atmospherics that add to its realism.

Using the audio files of real 911 calls, architectural drawings of the area and witness testimony from the subsequent trial of Zimmerman, who was found not guilty of second-degree murder in 2013, the VR experience is disturbingly effective in transmitting what being at the scene of the incident might have felt like.

First there was Warren Buffett, then Mark Zuckerberg and now Tim Cook. The Apple CEO told Fortune magazine on Thursday that he intends to donate his $785 million nest egg to charity. He just needs to pay for his nephew’s college education first.

Cook, 54, is the subject of a lengthy profile in Fortune, which estimated his net worth at $120 million and another $665 million in stock if it was all fully vested. While Cook isn’t worth the billions of dollars that Buffett and Zuckerberg are, his pronouncement catapults him into the ranks of the richest executives in the world who have turned to philanthropy.

“You want to be the pebble in the pond that creates the ripples for change,” Cook told Fortune.

IE will still exist on some versions of the new Windows, but it’ll have to share some hard drive space with its shinier successor, the new Microsoft browser codenamed “Project Spartan.”
