Bobby Shmurda Upset With His Record Label

In the two months that Ackquille Pollard, better known as the Brooklyn rapper Bobby Shmurda, has sat in jail on gang conspiracy and gun charges, his mother has visited twice a week. His hip-hop idols have offered words of support.

But Mr. Pollard says that he hasn’t heard what he wants from his label, Epic Records — namely a firm reassurance of its backing and help making his $2 million bail: “When I got locked up, I thought they were going to come for me,” he said in an interview from the Manhattan Detention Complex, “but they never came.”

The rapper is hoping to gather a fund of $25 million USD to finance cannabis-related startups, with weed delivery service Eaze being a potential recipient. As medical and recreational marijuana legalization continues, startups within the industry is ripe for investment, and the Long Beach rapper is hoping to reap some of the inevitable profit.

Watch Waka Flocka Read “50 Shades Of Grey”

After 100 million copies sold worldwide and an undying global fascination since its 2011 release, Fifty Shades Of Grey, the movie, hit theaters this past weekend. The box office numbers, as expected, were phenomenal, leading the erotic tale to nab the biggest February opening in history, succeeding Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ. The erotic drama brought in $85 million in just one weekend, beating out the $81.7 million estimate.

Believe it or not, the love story has even made its way into hip-hop. The popularity of the novel along with a cameo from Roc Nation signee, Rita Ora in the film and a Beyonce heavy soundtrack has lately but surely led the hip-hop community to jump on the bandwagon.
