Fox Cancels “American Idol” After 15 Seasons

After one of the most dominant runs in television history, American Idol will not return after its 15th season this January, Fox announced Monday. Host Ryan Seacrest – the only on-screen talent that has been with the show since its 2002 debut – and the current judges’ table of Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban will be along for Idol‘s last ride.
Fox added that the singing competition series that unearthed Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry and Adam Lambert would stage a “season-long celebratory event” in its last season alongside their search for “the final Idol superstar.” Idol winners have combined for a total of 13 Grammys, led by Underwood’s seven. However, the series hasn’t discovered an award winner in nearly a decade.
Luscious Lyons Will Get A Fourth Son In Season 2 Of “Empire”

“We just signed Ne-Yo who’s going to be writing all new music with Timbaland,” announced Fox co-chairs Dana Walden and Gary Newman to the thrill of anyone who thought mid-’00s R&B was underrated. Fox also announced that Empire will stick around in its time slot, Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. As expected, Fox executives also said that the second season of Empire will consist of 18 episodes split into two halves — one for fall, one for spring — with a crazy cliffhanger for the midseason hiatus in which a fourth Lyon son emerges. He’ll be played by Zac Efron.
Sofia Vergara To Star In Reality Show To Air Via Snapchat

Sofia Vergara is everywhere. Variety reports that the Modern Familystar is will soon be the subject of short-form reality series on Snapchat. The six-episode series, titled Vergaraland, will focus on Vergara’s Hollywood career, shown through the eyes of her 24-year-old son Manolo González Vergara.
The show, which debuts this summer, is being co-produced by Fusion, along with Vergara’s own production company, Latin World Entertainment. “Manolo finally graduated and I am very happy for his alliance with Fusion to create such an innovative series,” said Vergara in an official statement. That Fusion is making the show for Snapchat’s international audience is fitting; the company, which aims its content at a young and diverse audience, is already a part of the Snapchat Discover feature that launched in January. Fusion’s Discover channel isn’t yet available in the US, however.
Nicki Minaj To Star In “Barbershop 3”

Common recently snagged a role on the forthcoming Barbershop 3, and now Nicki Minaj will be co-starring in the third Barbershop as well, as Draya the sassy hairdresser. If you’re doubting her capabilities, Nicki does have big screen experience.
Nicki Minaj played Cameron Diaz’s assistant in The Other Woman and she was the voice over for the sassy mammoth in Ice Age: Continental Drift. So there’s no doubt that Nicki will do well in the film.
We were already anxious for Barbershop 3, but now we can’t wait.

Obama Jokes With Letterman About Post-Retirement Life
Letterman said Obama told him during a commercial break that he plans to take a month off after leaving office. The president said he and the first lady hope to get involved in causes they care about “in a different capacity,” including climate change, as well as helping support disadvantaged youth and military families.
But most of all Obama indicated that, like Letterman, he is looking forward to life out of the spotlight. “It does feel good not to have to be on the stump,” Obama said of the 2016 campaign.
“I was thinking you and me could play some dominoes together,” Obama said. “We could go to the local Starbucks and swap stories.”
