Diddy to Open Charter School In Harlem

Sean “Diddy” Combs is for the children. On Monday (Mar. 28), the hip-hop mogul and Capital Preparatory Schools announced that they are opening a new charter school in Harlem.

After five years of meeting with leaders and experts, Capital Preparatory Harlem Charter School is set to launch in the fall of 2016. Located at 1 East 104th Street, the school will be overseen by Capital Prep’s founder Dr. Steve Perry and run by principal Danita Jones.

“I’m inspired by Sean Combs’ belief that educating our young people is the key to opening up a world of opportunity for them,” Dr. Perry said in a statement. “Sean and I have spent many long hours over the last five years talking about education and how best to meet the needs of the young people of Harlem, and I couldn’t be more pleased to continue this journey through the opening of the school.”

Puff’s school is currently accepting applications for 6th and 7th grade students. The plan is to expand a grade each year up until 12th grade. Those interested in applying to be a teacher or a student can visit the school’s website.
