No, it’s not 1997. But yes, Adam Sandler is killing it like never before. According to recent reports from Sony, Hotel Transylvania 2’s opening weekend grossed $48.46M, which makes it Adam Sandler’s highest opening ever. Well, that’s it. September is done. We blew it.
I have to admit that I didn’t even know there was a first Hotel Transylvania, butaccording toDeadline, this sequel was “the best September opening of all-time, the best debut for Sony Pictures Animation, and to date it’s Sony’s best opening of 2015.” Damn. Vampires still got it.
All of this isn’t good news for De Niro, who stars in The Intern, a movie that opened at a disappointing $17.7M. This is particularly ironic to me, because interns are the closest thing we have to the walking, bloodthirsty dead. The takeaway here? Cute cartoons always win, even when Adam Sandler is involved.
Got the drop on Complex . . .
