After conquering the box office with Straight Outta Compton, Ice Cube and his son O’Shea Jackson Jr. could be teaming up again, this time for a Lionsgate action thriller.

Cube and Jackson are in talks to star in April 29, 1992, which is being produced by Will Packer. Packer was an exec producer on Compton and worked with Cube on the Ride Along action comedies.

Donovan Marsh, who garnered acclaim for his thriller iNumber Number, is directing.

The script, written by Sascha Penn, tells of an ex-criminal (Cube) who must save his son when a group of thugs raid his place of work in the hopes to steal an expensive amount of platinum. The title refers to the L.A. riots in 1992.

A February start is being eyed.

Cube was a producer on Compton, the story of the rise and fall of his rap group N.W.A that surprised observers when it opened to $60.2 million (its total is now at $80.1 million). Jackson plays a younger version of his father in the Universal drama.

His acting generated strong reviews and convinced the studio a father-son team-up was feasible. Insiders, however, caution that talks are in the early stages and deals may not make.

Cube is repped by UTA, Prospect Park and Ziffren Brittenham. Jackson is repped by Ziffren Brittenham. Marsh is repped by ICM Partners and Hansen Jacobson.
