Police officers in Brooklyn discovered a loaded pistol hidden inside a fake Bible after stopping a car in East Flatbush, New York, on Monday.
Officers with the NYPD’s 70th precinct discovered the weapon after they pulled over a car at 2 a.m. for having tinted windows. When officers approached the 2012 Toyota Corolla they detected a strong odor of marijuana in the car and noticed a lit marijuana cigarette and two open bottles of alcohol, police said.
A further search of the car revealed a leather-bound lockbox disguised as a King James Bible with the words “Contains both the old & new testaments” printed on its cover. Inside the case was a loaded Glock semi-automatic handgun, 10 bullets and a magazine.
Deshawn Thompson, 24, and 32-year-old Andre Allen face charges that include unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.
