Stephen A. Smith has become a regular on the sports blogs because of some of the ridiculous things that he has routinely said on ESPN First Take. Fromaccusing Chip Kelly of favoring white players over black players to downplaying the domestic violence accusations made against Floyd Mayweather Jr., SAS has stayed in the news over the last few months. So it should come as no surprise to hear that he’s making headlines again, albeit for something that he said onSportsCenter last night as opposed to First Take. And it has quite a few people wondering when ESPN is going to ask him to tone down the comments he makes.
During the SportsCenter Top 10 segment last night, SAS was asked to chime in during a highlight of an impressive goal that Norway scored against Germany. But rather than offer any real insight into it, he decided to make a remark that didn’t sit well with, well, anyone. After seeing the goal that Maren Mjeldescored, he said that the German team didn’t try to stop her shot because “they might not have wanted to mess their hair up.”
Sigh. And just in case people didn’t hear him, he actually repeated it again to make sure his words came across loud and clear.
