Former NBA commish David Stern’s been a hater a long time, man. First, the man banned the black/red Air Jordan 1, and when another talented two guard took the floor for Orlando, he almost banned the Nike Air Foamposites, too, for not having enough black in them.
The solution? A Sharpie and American ingenuity from Anfernee Hardaway, who customized his Foams using a marker before lacing up them for the first round of the 1997 NBA Playoffs against the Heat. He went on to have two huge outings, scoring 41 and 42 points.
Now that Stern is done, Nike’s bringing back a player exclusive in the 2015 ‘Penny Pack.’ The set brings back the “customized” Nike Air Foamposite ‘Sharpie’ and the new Nike Penny 6 for another Black/Royal/White duo that will have people searching the closet and dusting off those Magic snapbacks and basketball shorts. No concrete release info just yet but expect the ‘Penny Pack’ to release around early July.
